Child & Teen Counseling
A supportive place to grow.
Child and teen counseling offers developmentally appropriate support for young people as they navigate emotions, relationships, school, family changes, and the everyday work of becoming themselves.
When extra support may help
Counseling may be helpful when a young person is experiencing anxiety, low mood, frequent worry, behavior changes, ADHD-related challenges, school concerns, friendship struggles, family conflict, grief, stress, or difficulty managing big emotions. Every child and teen is different; an initial conversation can help clarify what kind of support may fit.
For children
Children often communicate through behavior, play, and relationships. Counseling can include play therapy, creative expression, skill building, and parent collaboration to help children name feelings, strengthen coping tools, and feel more secure at home, school, and with peers.
For teens
Adolescence can bring pressure, uncertainty, and rapid change. Counseling gives teens a private, respectful place to discuss identity, friendships, family dynamics, anxiety, mood, school stress, and future goals while building practical strategies that feel like their own.
Parents are an important part of the process.
The degree of parent involvement is shaped by a young person’s age, needs, and treatment goals. Families may be supported through parent consultations, check-ins, family sessions, and shared goal setting. Your therapist will discuss privacy, communication, and safety in a way that helps protect the therapeutic relationship while keeping caregivers appropriately involved.
Depending on each client, care may draw on Play Therapy, Theraplay, creative arts approaches, cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness, family systems work, and strengths-focused support.
What to expect
The first step is a conversation to learn what is happening, what support is being sought, and how Lighthouse may help. From there, the therapist works collaboratively with the young person and family to set goals, build trust, and shape a care plan that can evolve over time.
